One of Google's most senior Maps executives has departed for a VP job at Facebook, Insider has learned.

Dane Glasgow, formerly vice president of product for Google Maps, will work on Facebook's entertainment products including its gaming platform, according to an update on his LinkedIn profile.

A Google source confirmed the move. A company spokesperson declined to comment.

Glasgow joined Google in 2017 and helped steer the company's popular Geo products, including Maps and Google Earth.

Google would not comment on whether Glasgow's role had been replaced. Gayathri Rajan oversees the enterprise side of the Maps business and it's not clear if she will take on any of Glasgow's responsibilities.

In a reorg last June, Glasgow was appointed to co-lead Geo with Elizabeth Reid, reporting into search boss Prabhakar Raghavan.  The two of them replaced Jen Fitzpatrick, who moved to a new role leading Google's core infrastructure.

In April this year, Raghavan realigned the Geo team, appointing Reid to a senior leadership role overseeing Google's main search experience.

Several other executives were also moved into more senior roles with greater responsibility, while Scott Huffman, formerly VP of engineering for Google Assistant, stepped down into a new unknown position within Google as part of those changes.

Glasgow's departure follows other changes within the Maps group. The Maps sales team was recently moved out of the Search organization and into Google Cloud, The Information reported in May. The move was made to speed up sales, which had slowed in recent years, according to the report.
